This is why we should all drink milk. 2 glasses daily. Or else you’ll miss out on $10,000
The “Got Milk?” campaign began running in October 1993 and has been credited with greatly increasing milk sales nationwide after a 20-year slump.
The first commercial [which I’m sure we all remember], aired in October 1993 and featured a hapless history buff who receives a call to answer a radio station’s $10,000 trivia question: “Who shot Alexander Hamilton in that famous duel?”
The man’s apartment is shown to be a private museum to the duel, packed with artifacts. He answers the question correctly, but because his mouth is full of peanut butter and he had no milk to wash it down, his answer was unintelligible. The ad, directed by Michael Bay, was at the top of the advertising industry’s award circuit in 1994. In 2002, the ad was named one of the ten best commercials of all time by a USA Today poll. (source)
_____________i wonder what the criteria must be for ‘best commercial’. this one is good, as in it’s funny enough that you’ll remember it, thanks to the dramatization (i mean, the most pressing situation us non-actors would face is someone asking us a simple question after we’ve just stuffed an shortbread cookie into our mouths), and if it increased sales as much as it has, it certainly achieved its purpose, thanks in part to the sexual undertones of its print ads too, but is it one of the best??!
